The imprisonments are a ‘very serious attack on democracy,’ Puigdemont says
He demands, as “legitimate” president, the release of the vice president, the ministers, and an end to the “repression”
Dismissed president Carles Puigdemont said in a
televised speech that the jailing of his government is a "coup against
the December 21 elections,” referring to the upcoming snap elections
called by the Spanish government. The imprisonments were also described
by Puigdemont as “a very serious attack on democracy.”
According to Puigdemont, the jailing of Catalan ministers today shows
that the upcoming December elections “will be developed in a climate of
repression and imprisonment,” in what he described as an “unprecedented
situation in 21st century Europe.” Puigdemont, as a “legitimate”
president, he said, has demanded “the liberation of the ministers and
the vice president” and the “end of political repression.”
He also warned Catalans that “a long and fierce repression awaits”
and he stated that the “fury” of the Spanish government has become
“runaway” and that it’s “threatening everything.” Puigdemont, for this
reason, called for his audience “to fight it” the Catalan way, "without
violence, with peace and with respect for all opinions and people.”

An airstrike by a Saudi-led military coalition has killed 21 people at a market in Yemen's northern Saadah province, according to a Reuters witness at the scene.
The attack that struck the Sahar district of the vast territory, on
the border with Saudi Arabia, reduced the site to a heap of twisted
sheet metal. Medics gathered corpses and laid them in a group.
A military alliance led by Saudi Arabia has launched thousands of airstrikes against Yemen's armed Houthi movement, which hails from Saadah and now controls much of the country.

Saudi Aramco (the Saudi Arabian Oil Company) is the world’s largest
petroleum business. However, it never appears in the rankings of the
world’s largest oil producers, since it
does not publish financial information such as profit, sales, assets, or
market capitalization. Therefore America’s ExxonMobil and Chevron,
China’s Sinopec and PetroChina, the Anglo-Dutch company Royal Dutch
Shell, Great Britain’s BP, and France’s Total top the rankings. But
everyone knows perfectly well that these leaders in the global oil
industry are mere dwarfs compared to Saudi Aramco.

Nestlé, Hershey and Mars 'breaking promises over palm oil use' | Environment | The Guardian
The last parcel of Sumatran rainforest in which these three species
all roam – along with rhinos, clouded leopards and sun bears – is
vanishing at a dramatic pace as lucrative palm oil plantations illegally eat into tropical forestland.
The brands source palm oil from this 2.6m hectare Leuser region, via complex supply chains, some involving traders linked to suppliers illegally logging in the region.
Nestlé promised to end deforestation in its supply chain by 2015 in response to Greenpeace’s KitKat campaign of 2010. After Ran’s “Snack food 20” report, this was upgraded to a pledge of “no sourcing from areas converted from natural forests after 1 February 2013”. The target was missed.
“Four years later we can now trace over 90% of our palm oil back to
the mill of origin and almost two thirds back to the plantation level,”
said Nestlé spokeswoman Peggy Diby. “Our ambition is to raise this
figure to 100% by 2020, back to plantation.”
In July, Nestlé told the Guardian it could only source 47% of its
palm oil to plantations, suggesting a big improvement in the last three
months.
Hershey’s said in 2014
that it would source all of its palm oil back to the mill level by
2015, and to plantations by 2016. But its plantation level sourcing
actually fell in 2016 from 27% to 14%, and the commitment has been deferred until 2020.
