Introduction to Libertarianism | A Libertarianism.org Guide

Libertarianism—the philosophy of personal and economic freedom—has
deep roots in Western civilization and in American history, and it’s
growing stronger. Two long wars, chronic deficits, the financial crisis,
the costly drug war, the campaigns of Ron Paul and Rand Paul, the
growth of executive power under Presidents Bush and Obama, and the
revelations about NSA abuses have pushed millions more Americans in a
libertarian direction. The Libertarian Mind, by David Boaz,
longtime executive vice president of the Cato Institute, is the best
available guide to the history, ideas, and growth of this increasingly
important political movement.

China Enforces Real-Name Policy to Regulate Online Comments

If you reside in China, your Internet life within the borders will soon be even more challenging.

Last Friday, China's top Internet regulator announced
a new set of rules that would force citizens to post comments using
their real-world identities on Internet forums and other web platforms.

Yes, you heard that right. Anonymity is about to die in the country.

The Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) will start officially
enforcing the new rules starting from October 1, 2017, requiring
websites operators and service providers of online forums to request and
verify real names and other personal information from users when they
register and must immediately report illegal content to the authorities.

According to the CAC, the following content would be considered unlawful and forbidden from being published online:

  • Opposing the basic principles as defined in the Constitution

  • Endangering national security

  • Damaging nation's honor and interests

  • Inciting national hatred, ethnic discrimination and undermining national unity

  • Undermining nation's religious policies and promoting cults

  • Spreading rumours, disrupting social order and destroying social stability

  • Spreading pornography, gambling, violence, murder, terror or abetting a crime

  • Insulting or slandering others and infringing upon others

  • Any other content that is prohibited by laws and administrative regulations

Well, the list covers almost everything.

Canada’s Supreme Court Orders Google To De-index Site Globally, Opening Door To Censorship - TruePublica

By Greg Sterling SearchEngineLand: The Canadian Supreme Court has ordered (June 2017) Google to de-index an e-commerce site globally.
This sets a disastrous precedent that opens the door for other
governments (and private parties) across the globe to try to control or
censor Google’s search results.

Canada’s Supreme Court orders Google to de-index site globally, opening door to censorship

TruePublica Editor: The article regarding the
Canadian Supreme Court ordering Google to de-list a company from
globally business activity for a crime committed in one country sets a
dangerous precedent, particularly in an environment where the web is
dominated by one transnational corporation who has already been fined
2.7 billion euro’s for fraud and is clearly censoring online information
to suit its own political agenda. The extract from Time
about Cambridge university perfectly describes the process. China, with
huge investments in the UK, such as nuclear energy, is now able to
demand censorship at will.

Cambridge University Press – The
U.K.-based publisher said in a statement Monday that it had
“reluctantly” agreed to remove 315 articles from copies of its
journal The China Quarterly that were to be distributed in the country,
following a “clear order” from the importer, but that it had since
decided to reinstate the blocked content, which reportedly included topics such as the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989, the Cultural Revolution, Tibet and Taiwan.

16 Years of War in Afghanistan, in Pictures - The New York Times

KABUL,
Afghanistan — Soon after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, the United
States military’s attention turned to Afghanistan, where Al Qaeda’s
leaders were based. The world awaited an invasion that many knew was
sure to come.

What
nobody knew was that the invasion to rout the Taliban and Al Qaeda
would turn into a war that has now stretched into its 16th year —
America’s longest.

It has vexed three American presidencies and outlasted a dozen American military commanders.

The war also opened a window into a country where modernity clashed with tribal customs and religious edicts.

On
Monday night, President Trump announced a new strategy for the war,
bringing with it a possible increase in troop levels and a seemingly
open-ended commitment to American involvement.

Here
in reverse-chronological order are images that depict the arc of the
war, as seen through the eyes of New York Times photographers who
shadowed the soldiers of the United States and its allies.

 Jihadist attacks

The director of the anti-terrorist Intelligence directed the informative boycott of the Mossos

The lack of coordination between the police forces that has come to light after the jihadist attacks in Catalonia has its origin in the information blockade that Interior submitted to the security forces during Fernández Díaz's term. From that era of "political brigade" and Operation Catalonia is a protagonist: José Luis Olivera, current director of CITCO and former head of the National Center for Anti-Terrorism Coordination that blocked Mossos access to databases

 CARLOS ENRIQUE BAYO

It was the days of Minister Jorge Fernández Díaz and his conversations recorded in his official office of the Interior - which Public unveiled exclusively - of the conspiracy against Catalan independence parties and politicians - which recently confirmed the commission of inquiry of the Congress of Deputies -, of the popular consultation of 9-N against which the political brigade organized the denominated Operation Catalonia ...

While all this was happening, a man of the highest confidence of the minister directed the National Center for Counter-Terrorism Coordination (CNCA), and blocked the access of the Mossos d'Esquadra to the police data banks on the international jihadists of Europol (SIENA or SIRENE) and Interpol. He even denied them integration into the CNCA and even boycotted the investigations of the Catalan autonomous police against jihadism, such as those of Operation Caronte.

"It is an absurdity to isolate one of the security forces," says Público, a commissioner with long experience in the fight against Islamist terrorism. "The head of the CNCA should have told the minister that this strategy was extremely counterproductive, because if a police force can not consult a database, it will not introduce its findings into it, as a very human response of rejection, and are created Watertight compartments that only lead to duplicity of efforts and lack of coordination. The Truth About Our Clothes & Where They Come From – What You Will Find In A Typical Western Home – Collective Evolution

The Truth About Our Clothes & Where They Come From – What You Will Find In A Typical Western Home – Collective Evolution

There is no easy way to say this to a Western audience.

Our clothes — the stuff in our wardrobe right now — are the result of a reckless industry, responsible for some of the worst pollution and most horrific human rights
violations on the planet. Pressured by fashion’s largest name brands,
textile factories and garment manufacturers consistently cut corners to
increase annual profit margins, at any cost. The modern fashion
industry, currently making upwards of $3 trillion a year, is simply
unsustainable. Here’s why:
Next to big oil, the clothing industry is the second largest polluter in the world and
is responsible for the most the detrimental toxic waste dumping, ground
water contamination, and water consumption of any industry.
The
unrelenting waste of retailers and typical Western households has far
exceeded the capacity of global landfills. Americans alone throw away
over 14 million tonnes
of clothes every year; annually, that’s about 80 pounds per person.
Local thrift operations only sell about 20% of donated items. More than 80% of our clothes end up being packaged and shipped to landfills and incinerators around the world.

But it's not just about

Thailand - ministers of ousted regime get decades in jail.

If the decades-long jail terms handed out to those of the ousted regime involved in the vote-buying rice
scam seem "harsh," just remember that they participated in the
pilfering of billions, left 1 million rice farmers unpaid, languishing
in debt, and drove some to suicide.

They also presided over the systematic attack and murder of protesters
who opposed them right before their regime was finally ousted by the
military after they ignored the courts and the police refused to act.

Do not forget what the Shinawatras, their party, and their foreign
supporters did to Thailand, its rice industry, and its farmers.

40 years is more than fair when you consider the suffering these people
intentionally, knowingly put the nation through for their own selfish
ends.

And as always, another Shinawatra has escaped justice,
flees in luxury, while people to this day still suffer from the
consquences of her greed.

US Airstrikes Killing Hundreds of Civilians in Syria’s Raqqa

US Airstrikes Killing Hundreds of Civilians in Syria’s Raqqa

Certain
Kurdish factions are being used by the US and NATO to divide and
conquer Syria. Strikes are meant to ‘support’ Kurdish invasion of Syrian
city occupied by ISIS. Earlier this
week, at least 100 civilians were killed in a span on 48 hours in Raqqa.
Observers put the figure at 168 in the past 10 days, and 458 in US
airstrikes against the city since June, including 134 children.

These strikes are meant to support the Kurdish invasion of Raqqa, but
the fact that they are pounding residential districts in a war-torn city
means that a lot of what they’re hitting are buildings packed with
civilian bystanders.

The UN is even pushing the US to halt its
airstrikes against the city indefinitely, saying another 20,000
civilians should be allowed to flee without fearing being a target of US
airstrikes. There is, as yet, no indication that is being seriously
