The
killing of hundreds of nature protectors in recent years has led 24
Latin American and Caribbean states to formally commit to protecting
environmental leaders. This is a step towards justice for Indigenous
land protectors like Berta Caceres, who was killed in her home in
Honduras two years ago.
The treaty was signed two years after the killing of Honduran activist
Berta Cáceres, who had protested against the construction of a dam.
