A deadly outbreak of Pertussis is sweeping across the country. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has confirmed 18 deaths and nearly 50,000 cases of pertussis, which is also known as “whooping cough”, and fears that there could be thousands more unreported cases of the illness. Symptoms of pertussis include fever, diarrhea, and a severe cough. In some cases, the infection can lead to death.
The outbreak has been largely linked to pockets of anti-vaccine enthusiasts who have been harboring the disease and allowing more virulent strains to develop and cross into the immunized population. However, anti-vaccine enthusiast and professional homemaker Jenny Falden thinks that the current outbreak is a small price to pay for ensuring her children do not encounter the toxins that she believes are in vaccines, despite that the fact that millions of research dollars have been spent confirming the safety of vaccines.
“I know that other parent’s children have died from this outbreak,” Falden commented, “But that’s a small price to pay for the freedom to raise my children free of vaccines.” The CDC recommends that parents monitor their children during this outbreak event for symptoms and urges parents to follow all recommended vaccination schedules.
