Scotland – the first domino stone of regionalism? | European Public Affairs

18 September 2014, Edinburgh. Camera teams from all across Europe are
present as Alex Salmond, Scotland’s First Minister, is smiling
confidently after having cast his vote, while a few blocks further
Alistair Darling, leader of the Better Together campaign,
is making a last-minute plea for a continued union. For the first time
in the history of the European Union, a region is voting whether to
secede from its country and become a new, independent state.
