Or c’est peu dire
» (Illustration : Brandalism)

Waking Times

After marking the 12th anniversary of the terrible events of 9/11 and
remembering the over 3000 lives that were lost, the American people
find themselves embroiled in endless military conflict without clear
objectives, without a clear definition of who or what we are still
fighting, and without respectable leadership. This confusion has been
highlighted by the recent push to initiate a bombing campaign against
Syria, even though it is widely known that any campaign against the
Syrian government would be in direct support of Al Qaeda, the group supposedly to blame for the attacks on 9/11.

For 12 years now the casualties on all sides have mounted and the
Middle East has become increasingly destabilized. How is it that our
national response to the 9/11 attack has triggered such a destructive,
expensive, confusing and open-ended military conflict, largely presided
over by a Nobel Peace Prize winning president?

Netanyahu paves the way for a new era of tyranny

24 November 2015

The National – 24 November 2015

With
dismaying predictability, Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu
lost no time in exploiting the massacre in Paris. As he has done many
times before, he claimed Europe’s trauma was just a taste of the
suffering Israelis have long known.

Discounting decades of a
brutal Israeli occupation as the cause of the recent wave of Palestinian
attacks, he said: “It is the terrorists who are to blame for terrorism,
not the territories, not the settlements and not any other thing.”

Rather
than criticising the occupation, he added, the world should learn from
Israel’s “aggressive policy” how to defeat its enemies. Last week, he
unveiled the latest measure, outlawing the northern wing of the Islamic
Movement, a popular party among Israel’s Palestinian citizens, one in
five of the population.

The Most Brazen Corporate Power Grab in American History

The release Thursday of the 5,544-page text of the Trans-Pacific
Partnership—a trade and investment agreement involving 12 countries
comprising nearly 40 percent of global output—confirms what even its
most apocalyptic critics feared.

“The TPP, along with the WTO [World Trade Organization] and NAFTA [North
American Free Trade Agreement], is the most brazen corporate power grab
in American history,” Ralph Nader told me when I reached him by phone
in Washington, D.C. “It allows corporations to bypass our three branches
of government to impose enforceable sanctions by secret tribunals.
These tribunals can declare our labor, consumer and environmental
protections [to be] unlawful, non-tariff barriers subject to fines for
noncompliance. The TPP establishes a transnational, autocratic system of
enforceable governance in defiance of our domestic laws.”

" Today millions of people around the world will march for climate justice. These shows of strength and solidarity are good, but of course we know they're not enough. It’s not enough to appeal to the authorities to do the right thing. It’s not enough to reduce our personal consumption of resources. The climate crisis is a systemic problem, and these systems have names; capitalism, colonialism, patriarchy, the military industrial complex… We cannot hope to "save the planet" without first confronting and dismantling these systems of domination and oppression. It’s time to be disobedient. It’s time to take direct action. It’s time to rise up!"

The revolutionary act of telling the truth

The revolutionary act of telling the truth

The revolutionary act of telling the truth

30 September 2015

George Orwell said, "In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act."

These
are dark times, in which the propaganda of deceit touches all our
lives. It is as if political reality has been privatised and illusion
legitimised. The information age is a media age. We have politics by
media; censorship by media; war by media; retribution by media;
diversion by media - a surreal assembly line of clichés and false
assumptions.

Wondrous technology has become both our friend
and our enemy. Every time we turn on a computer or pick up a digital
device - our secular rosary beads - we are subjected to control: to
surveillance of our habits and routines, and to lies and manipulation.

Edward
Bernays, who invented the term, "public relations" as a euphemism for
"propaganda", predicted this more than 80 years ago. He called it, "the
invisible government".

He wrote, "Those who manipulate
this unseen element of [modern democracy] constitute an invisible
government which is the true ruling power of our country... We are
governed, our minds are molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested,
largely by men we have never heard of... "

Open Season on Murdering Palestinians with Impunity

by Stephen Lendman

Since October 1, the death toll tops 100 defenseless Palestinian civilians murdered by Israeli forces unaccountably.

Rogue states operate this way, disturbingly against young children,
over two dozen killed, hundreds injured or arrested. B’Tselem accused
Israel of cold-blooded murder.

Its letter to Netanyahu demanded an end to the ongoing carnage,
including “horrific…summary street executions.” Executive director Hagai
El-Ad accused him of “permit(ting) – and encourag(ing) the
transformation of police officers, and even of armed civilians, into
judges and executioners.”

Free-fire rules let security forces murder in cold blood with
impunity – police state injustice. “Full support for documented
instances of unlawful killing reflects a (horrific) reality” on the
ground.

Shoot-to-kill orders can never be justified “no matter the
circumstances, (especially) when suspects pose no danger to authorities,
El-Ad stressed. Summary street executions endanger all Palestinians,
guilty of being Arabs in a Jewish rogue state pretending to be
democratic.

Israeli criminal law abolished the death penalty in 1954, over six
decades ago. The decision to impose it should always be judicial in
cases where governments authorize it.

Netanyahu’s “silence when security forces operate outside the
boundaries of the law cannot absolve one of responsibility. You will not
be able to claim that your ears did not hear of this or that your mouth
did not command it,” said El-Ad.

Today we hate the other side more than we root for our own team. Why the end of rah-rah politics is bad for democracy

By Leon Neyfakh Globe Staff  November 09, 2014

In the election season that ended last Tuesday, it may not always have been clear what candidates stood for, but it sure was easy to tell what they were against. Conservatives hammered away at the fact that their opponents were Democrats, just like the unpopular president. In Massachusetts, whole attack ads were conjured out of ominous repetitions of “Republican” next to Charlie Baker’s picture.

As politics in America continue to grow more negative and more polarized, the words “Democrat” and “Republican” have practically become slurs. This clearly reflects the feelings of voters: Record numbers of them—49 percent of the red team and 33 percent of the blue—said in one survey that they would be unhappy if their son or daughter married someone from the other side. Back in 1960, those numbers were 5 and 4 percent, respectively, which tells you just about everything you need to know about how much more deeply divided we are today.

The people we elect aren’t the ones calling the shots, says Tufts University’s Michael Glennon

By Jordan Michael Smith October 19, 2014

The voters who put Barack Obama in office expected some big changes. From the NSA’s warrantless wiretapping to Guantanamo Bay to the Patriot Act, candidate Obama was a defender of civil liberties and privacy, promising a dramatically different approach from his predecessor.

But six years into his administration, the Obama version of national security looks almost indistinguishable from the one he inherited. Guantanamo Bay remains open. The NSA has, if anything, become more aggressive in monitoring Americans. Drone strikes have escalated. Most recently it was reported that the same president who won a Nobel Prize in part for promoting nuclear disarmament is spending up to $1 trillion modernizing and revitalizing America’s nuclear weapons.

Defining misinformation, disinformation and propaganda - TruePublica

Defining misinformation, disinformation and propaganda - TruePublica

Defining misinformation, disinformation and propaganda

Misinformation, disinformation and propaganda

It is important to understand the distinction between
misinformation, disinformation and propaganda, especially as all three
are prevalent within all societies, be they democracies or
dictatorships.

Disinformation is intentionally false or inaccurate information that
is spread deliberately. It is an act of deception and false statements
to convince someone of untruth.

Disinformation should not be confused with misinformation, information that is unintentionally false.

Unlike traditional propaganda techniques designed to engage emotional
support, disinformation is designed to manipulate the audience at the
rational level by either discrediting conflicting information or
supporting false conclusions. A common disinformation tactic is to mix
some truth and observation with false conclusions and lies, or to reveal
part of the truth while presenting it as the whole.

In espionage or military intelligence, disinformation is the
deliberate spreading of false information to mislead an enemy as to
one’s position or course of action. In politics, disinformation is the
deliberate attempt to deflect voter support of an opponent,
disseminating false statements of innuendo based on a candidate’s
vulnerabilities as revealed by opposition research. In both cases, it
also includes the distortion of true information in such a way as to
render it useless.

Disinformation may include distribution of forged documents,
manuscripts, and photographs, or spreading dangerous rumours and
fabricated intelligence. Its techniques may also be found in commerce
and government, used to try to undermine the position of a competitor.

Turkey Is Lying - Paul Craig Roberts > Strategic-Culture.org - Strategic Culture Foundation

Turkey Is Lying - Paul Craig Roberts > Strategic-Culture.org - Strategic Culture Foundation

Turkey Is Lying - Paul Craig Roberts

Tyler Durden at Zero Hedge has posted the flight paths of the Russian aircraft according to Turkey and to Russia.

We know that Turkey is lying for three reasons.

One reason is that NATO governments lie every time that they open their mouths.

A
second reason is that Turkey’s claim that the SU-24 was in Turkey’s
airspace for 17 seconds but only traveled 1.15 miles means that the
SU-24 was flying at stall speed! The entire Western media was too
incompetent to do the basic math!

A
third reason is that, assuming Turkey’s claim of a 17 second airspace
violation is true, 17 seconds is not long enough for a Turkish pilot to
get clearance for such a serious and reckless act as shooting down a
Russian military aircraft. If the SU-24 was flying at a normal speed
rather than one that would be unable to keep the aircraft aloft, the
alleged airspace violation would not have been long enough to be
noticed. A shootdown had to have been pre-arranged. The Turks, knowing
that the Russians were foolishly trusting to the agreement that there be
no air to air encounters, told pilots to look for an opportunity. In my
recent article, I gave a reason for this reckless act.

Black Then | Carlota: Enslaved African Woman Leader of the 1843 Slave Rebellion Who Used a “Machete” as Weapon

Carlota: Enslaved African Woman Leader of the 1843 Slave Rebellion Who Used a “Machete” as Weapon

Carlota, a slave woman, took up the machete in 1843 to lead a slave
uprising at the Triumvirato sugar mill in Matanzas Province and was
later brutally murdered.  She was one of the 3 leaders of the rebellion.
Her name was later given to Cuba’s 1980’s operation Black Carlota in
Southern Africa, which culminated in the battle of Cuito Cuanavale and
the defeat of the South African army in pitch battle.

Matanzas was the scene of many confrontations between enslaved
Africans and the slave system regime in Cuba during 1843 and 1844. The
uprising at the sugar – estate Triumvirato under the leadership of the
heroic Carlota had a great impact both inside and outside of the island.
Those struggles began in July and August of the year 1843. By means of
‘talking drums’ the rebels were called for battle. When hearing the
sounds of the drums, the slave-owners most likely thought that the
Africans were paying tribute to their ancestors in sessions held in and
around their barracoons. A man by the name of Evaristo and a woman
called Fermina of the sugar estate Arcana, were in charge of all
preparations. Their task was to encourage the enslaved people to rise up
and put an end to the hated system of human exploitation.

States of Terror

It is nearly certain that we will endure, sooner rather than later,
another catastrophic terrorist attack on American soil. The blundering
of our military into the Middle East; the failed states that have risen
out of the mismanagement and chaos of Iraq and Afghanistan; the millions
of innocents we have driven from their homes, terrorized or
slaughtered; the bankrupt puppet regimes we have equipped and trained
that will not fight; the massive amounts of munitions and military
hardware we have allowed to fall into the hands of jihadis—thousands of
them carrying Western passports; and the myopic foreign policy whose
single tenet is that more industrial violence will get us out of the
morass created by our industrial violence in the first place means that
we, like France, are in for it.

the spotlight is being turned on the fossil fuel industry’s tremendous
economic and political clout. The COP21 talks are sponsored
by some decidedly climate-unfriendly multinationals, prompting the
watchdog group Corporate Accountability International to launch a petition —signed by nearly 400,000 people and counting — to kick climate polluters out of the talks.

Drone Pilots have Bank Accounts and Credit Cards Frozen by Feds for Exposing US Murder

By William N. Grigg

For having the courage to come forward and expose the drone program for
the indiscriminate murder that it is, 4 vets are under attack from the
government they once served.

The U.S. Government failed to deter them through threats of criminal prosecution, and clumsy attempts to intimidate their families. Now four former Air Force drone operators-turned-whistleblowers have had their credit cards and bank accounts frozen, according to human rights attorney Jesselyn Radack.

“My drone operators went public this week and now their credit cards and bank accounts are frozen,” Radack lamented on her Twitter feed (the
spelling of her post has been conventionalized). This was done despite
the fact that none of them has been charged with a criminal offense –
but this is a trivial formality in the increasingly Sovietesque American

Paul Stamets' patent could destroy Monsanto's grip on the pesticide industry using mushrooms

Why poison your food if you don't have to?

In this post-industrial culture of getting as much as you can out of
as little space as possible, increasing profit, regardless of ecological
impact; we have birthed a slew of new ideas to accomplish effective
acceleration of growth while limiting the danger to our ecosystem.  One
such idea is the use of mushrooms in place of pesticides.

In 2001, Paul Stamets issued a US Patent
for a new kind of pesticide, a mycopesticide (pesticide that contains
living fungi), that is, in the words of executives in the pesticide
industry, “the most disruptive technology we have ever witnessed.”  By
utilizing mushrooms, instead of toxic chemicals, we can draw the
attention of insects away from the plants we are growing for food.
Before the mushroom begins sporulating, (producing spores) the insects
are attracted to it and eat it.  They feed it to their queen; and the
queen dies.  It dies because this particular type of mushroom actually
grows inside of the insect and bursts through it, killing it. After
this, the fungi will begin sporulating and the insects will be repelled
(they don't like spores).  The different types of fungi specifically
target up to 200,000 species of insects.

(NaturalNews) The Nazis burned books in an attempt to erase historical
records that Chancellor/Dictator Adolph Hitler did not like and did not
want to deal with. The Nazis were hardly the first to do so.

Throughout
antiquity and the Middle Ages, the burning of books critical of regimes
or simply as an attempt to destroy an entire culture took place,
stretching from before the Early Modern Period (1492 to the turn of the
19th century) through the Industrial Revolution.

Selling Fear

By Stephen Lendman

Fear mongering is longstanding US policy, facilitated by false flags –
state-sponsored terrorism, 9/11 Exhibit A, perpetrated with an agenda
in mind.

When well-executed, these schemes always convince a naive public to
believe what they’re told, not realizing they’re being duped,
manipulated to support what harms their security and well-being.

Various polls conducted days after the Paris attacks showed most
Americans support using US combat troops against ISIS in Syria and Iraq.
A Gallup poll conducted six days before the attacks revealed majority
opposition to direct US involvement on the ground.

Polling data also show most Americans willing to sacrifice
fundamental freedoms for greater security, including Big Brother
watching everyone more intrusively – not realizing that sacrificing one
for the other assures losing both.

Post-9/11 domestic and geopolitical horrors are well-documented. War
on humanity followed, specifically targeting Islam at home and abroad.
Repressive laws enacted straightaway and other totalitarian measures
turned America into a police state.

Studies that link Genetically Modified (GM) food to multiple human
health ailments are not the only thing that has millions of people
questioning the production of GM food. There is fact that previously
classified secret government documents exist which show how the Bush
administration developed ways to retaliate against countries that were
refusing to use GM seeds, for example. If information about our food
needs to be concealed from the public domain, then something has gone
seriously wrong with the food industry. It’s great to have an
organization like WikiLeaks shed some light into the world that’s been
hidden from us for so many years.

Media Censorship: Project Censored 2015: Top Ten News Stories Which The Media Chose to Ignore

When Sonoma State University
professor Carl Jensen started looking into the new media’s practice of
self-censorship in 1976, the internet was only a dream and most
computers were still big mainframes with whirling tape reels and vacuum
tubes.

Back then, the vast majority of
Americans got all of their news from one daily newspaper and one of the
three big TV networks. If a story wasn’t on ABC, NBC, or CBS, it might
as well not have happened.

Forty years later, the media world
is a radically different place. Today, Americans are more likely to get
their news from several different sources through Facebook than they
would from CBS Evening News. Daily newspapers all over the country are
struggling and, in some cases, dying. A story that appears on one
obscure outlet can suddenly become a viral sensation reaching millions
of readers at the speed of light.

Britain’s Draft Investigatory Powers Bill: AKA Mass Surveillance 3.0

Powers Bill: AKA Mass Surveillance 3.0

If the government has anything to do with it, privacy just got a whole lot worse. What the Draft Investigatory Powers Bill holds for everyone is exactly what all the criticism was about in the first place – except it attempts to make it lawful.

The Bill proposes that instead of deceiving every citizen in the UK
it will now simply admit to carrying out mass collection of our data and
still hack into and bug our personal devices such as computers and
smart phones. It’s the Snoopers Charter but as previous attempts were
rejected, the Home Secretary is having another stab at it. Same thing,
different words.

We already knew that the security services were doing this but
instead of storing all this information, they now propose that Internet
Service Providers (ISPs) capture, or steal – depending on your view –
every single online movement you make and hand it over to whoever,
whenever. Specifically, the security services, the police and “other
public bodies”.

(Freedom.news) In a
generation, the uniquely American right to speak freely – without fear
of government censorship or punishment – could become a relic of
history, according to the results of a recent Pew Research Center survey.

“American Millennials are far more likely than older generations to
say the government should be able to prevent people from saying
offensive statements about minority groups, according to a new analysis
of Pew Research Center survey data on free speech and media across the globe,” the center reported.
