History Professor Michael Jabara Carley: On 22 June 1941, more than 3
million German soldiers invaded the Soviet Union on a front stretching
from the Baltic to the Black Seas. The Red Army was caught flat-footed
largely because Stalin would not believe his own intelligence reports
which accurately warned of the German invasion.
