MARCH 30 - The Internet Association — representing Google, Facebook,
Twitter, Amazon, and Netflix, among others — endorsed the
non-transparent, anti-user Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement
that promotes censorship. Fight for the Future’s Press Release: http://bit.ly/1MXA1zy -

THE TPP WOULD:
- “Expand draconian copyright enforcement, undermining our privacy and
the public domain without ensuring protections for free speech;
- “Criminalize common practices like tinkering with or modifying devices, even for fair use purposes;
- “Enable multi-national corporations to skirt the democratic process
and use shadowy international tribunals to undermine Web users’ rights;
- “Set a precedent that will encourage anti-Internet lobbyists like the
ones who wrote SOPA to use trade agreements to push for bad Internet
policy.”

UPDATE
“Moments before
Fight for the Future launched its campaign, reddit, one of the most
popular sites on the Internet and a member of the Internet Association,
issued a tweet distancing themselves from the association’s position,
saying they do not support the TPP. reddit has supported Fight for the
Future’s campaigns against the TPP in the past. Cloud-computing firm
Salesforce also confirmed in an email to Fight for the Future that they
have not taken an official position on the TPP, casting doubt that there
is consensus in support of Internet Association’s statement even among
its member companies.”
