Goodbye New Labour: Victorious Corbyn consigns Blairism to history | Middle East Eye

Jonathan Cook, journalist

Top-notch
article from old-school Tory and political journalist Peter Oborne on
the revolution in British politics ushered in by Jeremy Corbyn. Oborne
draws an interesting parallel between the establishment backlash in the
UK against Corbyn and the Egyptian deep state's subversion of the Arab
Spring a few years back.

Set aside a bigotry that says our
elites are innately good and theirs innately bad, and the comparison
helps lay bare what is really at stake as Corbyn struggles to build a
social movement in the teeth of opposition from the political and media
classes, with the military laying in wait in the background (don't
forget that Times' interview with an unnamed general vowing a coup if
Corbyn was ever elected).
