good piece by George Monbiot on the phenomenon of Donald Trump, marred
only by his failure to state the obvious: that, if Trump is the US
political system "stripped of its pretences", Hillary Clinton is the
very same system with the pretences working in overdrive.
It may
be implicit in his piece, but that point needs spelling out, especially
as his own publication – the Guardian – has done so much to whitewash
Clinton's record.
'Donald Trump personifies the traits promoted by the media and corporate
worlds he affects to revile; the worlds that created him. He is the
fetishisation of wealth, power and image.’
