Breaking the Silence › Testimony - Kids do whatever they please in Hebron
Every
soldier who enlists knows that their aim is to defend. We, too,
enlisted with the aim of defending. On the ground, we discovered that
the reality looks different.
In Hebron we're not defending the country. There we guard settlers, outside of the country.
We protect settlers, some of whom use violence against anyone who isn't
them: soldiers/ Palestinians/ tourists and just ordinary people.
When settlers attack, the situation is 'sensitive.' They tell us that the situation
is 'complicated' and all sorts of slogans, but the fact is that
soldiers don't always know what to do in the face of these
'complexities.'
What do you do when there are no written orders?
Sometimes we block with our bodies, sometimes we step aside, and
sometimes we simply do nothing.
Why? Because it's simply clear to everyone that in the Wild West of the occupation, the true sheriffs are the settlers.
Here, read for yourselves:
“It felt as though the Jews really did whatever they pleased and no one
would care. We were stuck in the middle. I'll give you an example: The
extremely cute child who would regularly visit our position decided that
he didn't like Palestinians walking right under his home, so he took a
brick and threw it at her head.”

And that's what happened in Hebron three days ago, when the settler,

They attack and we won't remain silent. We decided to share, to speak
up, and to resist. This is our duty as long as the occupation exists.
