Ahead of vote to legalize West Bank outposts, cracks in coalition showing - Israel News - Haaretz.com
The
'Formalization'/ Whitewashing Bill, which is set to pass in tonight's
Knesset sitting, is an example of the logic of the occupation. This
logic is very simple: Inside of Israel you are forbidden to steal land,
but in the Occupied Territories, it is not only allowed but it is
sponsored, methodical and compensated.
So let's be clear here -
and we're not going to sugar-coat it: The Netanyahu government is
authorizing wholesale theft in order to further entrench the occupation.
As soldiers who served there, we know that with or without the law, it
happens anyway - We are sent to banish Palestinians from their land due
to a whole variety of excuses. Sometimes it's because their land needs
to be used as a firing zone for the IDF, other times it's because they
have been "illegally building" on their own land, sometimes it's because
their land needs to be used as security buffer zones for settlers
living in outposts and settlements and next up it's because Bibi and
Bennet couldn't care less about Supreme Court rulings and basic human
rights.
- Another illegal law in the slippery slope called the occupation.-
This is how is looks like in the field >>
"...We went to Umm al-Khair, and there was a disagreeable demolition.
The village’s sheikh, he lay there in front of the tractor, and we had
to get the border police to pull him away, there was cursing and
yelling. In the end he came up to us and asked, “Do you hear the
tractors working in the new neighborhood in Carmel? What’s that?” And we
told him, “They’re building with an approved plan, you aren’t.” He
goes, “Does that sound just, to you?” And we told him, “That’s the way
it is.” And you know that the new neighborhood was indeed approved, and
it had a plan and they were working according to the plan and
everything, but that man, who lives five meters from their fence and is
illegal according to the administration’s definitions, that’s a problem.
It's an unpleasant situation: To force old people, children, women out
of their homes. To do it day after day." [Judea Regional Brigade, Hebron
