Media freedom was one of the key demands of the revolution that toppled
the Shah and swept Ayatollah Khomeiny to power 38 years ago, in February
1979, but it is a promise that has never been kept and Iran is now one
of the world’s biggest prisons for media personnel, with a total of 29
journalists and citizen-journalists detained.
