The Washington Post's "blockbuster" expose of how Russia threw the
election to Trump by purchasing $100,000 worth of Facebook ads is
quickly falling apart. Turns out that
Facebook was repeatedly pressured by Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA) and other
leading Democrats on the Hill to find some evidence of Russian
involvement. Finally, the "smoking gun" was released by Facebook. Only
it misfired. Even the Post’s alarmist article acknowledges that it is
still unclear who bought the ads, referring to the purchasers as
“suspected Russian operatives.” In other words, we don’t even know that
the $100,000 in ads over three years came from Russians seeking to
influence the US election at all! It was another example of the Post's
disappearing journalistic standards in the service of its political
agenda.
