Western intervention to overthrow the Syrian government, the unrest
that began seven years ago would have long been over. Reforms were
introduced by the Assad government and the path to a multi-party system
had begun. But that was not enough. The US and its allies wanted Assad
gone. Hundreds of thousands are now dead and the country largely
