'Last week, UNPO General Secretary, Ralph Bunche, had the privilege of
monitoring the Catalan Independence trials in Madrid with International
Trial Watch. His article, published in the EU Observer, expresses the
concern that we have at the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples
Organization with the trials. The overreaction and rights violations
pretrial have set the trial on a dangerous course. There are some things
that the court can do to rectify the situation, but with
elections coming, whatever it does is likely to inflame opinions on one
side or the other. Dialogue, negotiation and compromise is needed a lot
more than the theatre of a "rebellion" trial and the EU should be at
the forefront of encouraging this.'
