Spain’s illegitimate use of force and the judiciary; Catalans’ legitimate self-defence
On Monday, 23 September, three weeks before the sentences of twelve Catalan civil and political leaders tried for rebellion, sedition and embezzlement were to be announced, 500 Civil Guard officers raided the homes and premises of nine Catalan pro-independentist activists in Operation Judas. Two were released the same day despite all nine being charged with terrorism offences. The other seven were transported to Civil Guard headquarters in Madrid, Tres Cantos, for questioning.
