Ukrainian Red Cross Society volunteer injured during clashes in Kiev - IFRC

Ukrainian Red Cross Society volunteer injured during clashes in Kiev - IFRC:

One Ukrainian Red Cross Society volunteer was wounded today (Thursday) while attempting to provide medical assistance during the unrest in the Ukrainian capital Kiev. The Red Cross is calling for all parties to respect the Red Cross emblem and the work of the medical personnel and volunteers who continue to provide first aid and medical assistance to those who are injured on a neutral basis.

Within the last 2-3 days, Red Cross emergency teams have assisted more than 360 people injured during the unrest. First aid has been provided to demonstrators and to members of the security forces alike, and transport to the outskirts of the fighting areas are carried out in blankets and stretchers by the emergency teams.

Injured are brought to waiting ambulances, which cannot enter the centre area, or directly to nearby field clinics and hospitals.

More than 50 members of the Red Cross emergency teams have been working in shifts since the demonstrations began in November, mainly in Kiev but also in other major cities across the country.

Volunteers from the Ukrainian Red Cross Society have been active during the unrest since December.
