Special Rapporteur Mutuma Ruteere highlights the issue of racism on the
Internet and social media, while warning that the rise of extremist
political parties and groups poses a threat to democracy and human

“The Internet serves as a formidable vehicle for the exercise of free
speech, but it also provides a powerful platform for the rapid
dissemination of racist ideas, ideologies and incitement to hatred,” the
expert emphasizes in his annual report to the Human Rights Council #HRC26.
