Child and forced marriage-manifestation of gender discrimination
Every
day, 39,000 girls are married without their consent. Throughout their
lives, these girls are exposed to discriminatory practices based on
gender stereotypes. http://sm.ohchr.org/1l3j6NK
The result of this sexual discrimination is “exposure to physical,
psychological, economic and sexual violence; forced labour; so-called
“honour” crimes; domestic slavery; and restrictions on their movement”
says Deputy UN Human Rights Chief Flavia Pansieri. Thus, UN experts
recommend that all States remove all legislative provisions that
discriminate against women and children; harmonise national legislation
with regional obligations and include sexual and reproductive health
education in school curriculums.
