"Dark Days" [Documentary] (Video)
For many decades, rumors have circulated about thousands of homeless
people descending below the streets of New York, and finding their way
into the many abandoned train tunnels that lay buried and forgotten
beneath the swarming city. Here the destitute, the addicted, and the
otherwise forgotten have gathered, simultaneously shunning the street
level society that rejected them while forming societies of their own,
based on their own rules and values. They build homes, steal electricity,
tap into water pipes, and create dwellings for themselves far more
elaborate than anything they could create on the streets. In the 1990s, a
British model living in New York City turned his back on the high life
and threw his lot in with the homeless living in these underground
tunnels, eventually translating their lives into an intriguing
documentary. His name is Marc Singer, and the film he created is “Dark
Days”…
