State Bill Introduced to Gut "Biggest Threat Since the Civil War”: NSA Surveillance
(ANTIMEDIA) On January 8th, a bill was introduced
to the Minnesota Senate that would effectively cut ties between the
state of Minnesota and the federal data collection facilitated by the
NSA.
In Bill SF33, Sen. Branden Petersen proposed,
“A government entity may not obtain personal
identifying information concerning an individual without a search
warrant. A court order granting access to this information must be
issued only if the government entity shows that there is probable cause
for belief that the individual who is the subject of the personal
identifying information is committing, has committed, or is about to
commit a criminal offense.”
This is a step below completely limitless NSA surveillance and
massive data collection; a step in the right direction. How big is this
step?
