Papua New Guinea: the New Frontier for Palm Oil Production

Papua New Guinea: the New Frontier for Palm Oil Production

" Yesterday we shared an article about the massive fires burning out of
control in Indonesia. The palm oil industry is culpable for this, since
deforested land is often burnt in order to clear the way for new palm
oil plantations. With much of Indonesia and Malaysia already under
intensive cultivation, attention is now turning to neighbouring Papua
New Guinea (West Papua is already under Indonesian occupation and is
being heavily exploited). All of this is part of a globalised world
where trade and capital trumps everything; putting profit before people,
nature and even the very systems we need to be able to survive on
Earth. This is a problem for everyone, it is something we all need to be
aware of and engaged with because it can only be stopped if we take
action together. "
