Reverend Andrew Ashdown: I have spent the last 6 weeks in Lebanon, Syria
and Iraq, the fourth such visit in 2 years – talking to numerous
people, including refugees, from all segments of Syrian society. Assad
has very strong support within Syria across the whole spectrum of Syrian
society, the majority of whom are Sunni. Sunnis in fact make up the
majority of the Syrian Army. Just a few weeks ago, 70 Sunni Syrian Army
soldiers were executed by ISIS at Deir Ezzor, largely ignored by the
mainstream media.
