This is a problematic statement which arises as a result of the details of the negotiations being kept so secret:
“It is time for Cecilia Malmström to make clear that the UK government
can act to exempt the NHS from TTIP without opposition from the
commission. The NHS is hugely important to people in the UK; Cecilia
Malmstrom must answer these important questions without delay.”
The UK govt has *always* been in a position to exempt the NHS from
TTIP. It has chosen not to. As a result the NHS is firmly on the
negotiating table.
Activists demonstrate against TTIP outside the European parliament in
Brussels. Unite is calling for the NHS to be exempt from the potential
impact of the deal.
