2007 Thailand National Human Development Report | UNDP in Thailand
Thailand's King Bhumibol didn't just have a collection of quotes
regarding self-sufficiency and sustainable development, he developed it
into a whole economic system with real-world implementation expanding
across the country.
This 2007 UN report encapsulates development
in Thailand, the basic principles of the King's economic system, and
provides real-world examples in practice.
Critics claim that it
is designed to keep "the poor, poor and in their place" but if you read
the King's own words, or see these principles in action nothing could be
further from the truth.
"Development of the country must proceed in
stages. First of all, there must be a foundation
with the majority of the people having enough
to live on by using methods and equipment
which are economical but technically correct
as well. When such a secure foundation is
adequately ready and operational, then it can
be gradually expanded and developed to raise
prosperity and the economic standard to a
higher level by stages."
So how is that "keeping the poor, poor and in their place?" I think
some jealous Marxists stuffed up in their offices with their books are
just jealous someone went outside and actually built something real with
their own two hands.
You don't have to read the whole report
page by page (unless you have the time), just skim over it and and read a
little here and there.
