Google appears to be intensifying its efforts to scrub the internet clean of dissident thought and opinion.
Chris Hedges reports that he cannot find any of his writings
on Google News (a separate Google search site specifically for news and
opinion). He assumes that this has happened because he spoke out
against internet censorship. I think he's wrong. It's not personal -
it's worse than that. It's because the sites on which he publishes are
being excised from the Google search engine.
I say that because exactly the same is true for me. Alternet and Common
Dreams also regularly publish my articles, but I can no longer find
those articles on Google News, even if I search for them specifically.
It's not Chris Hedges or Jonathan Cook who are being targeted. It is the
dissident websites that provide a platform for us all.
Soon enough, the blackout will surely spread to the main Google search engine itself.

Hedges: “I can tell you from having lived in and covered despotic
regimes, I think we’ve got to ring all of the alarm bells while we still
have the chance, because they’re not going to stop.”
