A leaked August 12, 2012 report by the U.S. Defense Intelligence
Agency confirms unequivocally that the US administration had
contemplated supporting Al Qaeda affiliated rebels in Syria several
years prior to the onslaught of the war in March 2011.
… there is the possibility of establishing a declared or undeclared Salafist Principality in eastern Syria (Hasaka and Der Zor), and this is exactly what the supporting powers to the opposition want, in order to isolate the Syrian regime ….
Bear in mind, as mentioned by the report, the objective was also to install so to speak the Islamic State in Mosul and Ramadi.
