Rapidly
confirming my recent post that the "war on fake news" is being
exploited to launch an Orwellian war on free thought, the UK government
has established a "national security unit" dealing with ... "fake news".

This is the official rationale: “We are living in an era of fake news
and competing narratives. The government will respond with more and
better use of national security communications to tackle these
interconnected, complex challenges."
The mask almost slipped there. "Competing narratives!" We wouldn't want that, not in a democracy.
All of this reported, of course, uncritically by supposedly liberal media like the Guardian.
