Propaganda 101: How To Defend A Massacre | Current Affairs

Propaganda 101: How To Defend A Massacre | Current Affairs

This
piece is a really superb deconstruction of mainstream propaganda
justifying last week's murder of large numbers of Palestinians in Gaza.
It's a kind of masterclass in critical thinking, which is why I
recommend it to you.

Two things to remember as you read it. The
article under analysis – the one rationalising a massacre – was
published in the New York Times. What does it say about the depraved
ethics of the paper and its elite readership that the editors thought
they could pass off this apologia for a massacre as informed commentary?

And equally troubling, exactly the same piece could have been written,
and published by the NYT, had it been justifying the murder not of 60
Palestinians, but 60,000, or maybe even 600,000. It opens your eyes to
how easily might the NYT become the vehicle for justifying to liberal
Americans a genocide in Gaza, or anywhere else.
