Canada has bee in on the act for quite some time.

Late last week, Canadian Immigration added 11 countries to the already long list of countries whose citizens are required to give up biometric information on entering Canada.

For a long time, Canadian passports have required "no smile" pictures to make it easier for facial recognition technology to work. Ontario joins just a few US states in also requiring "no smile" drivers licensing. Which US third parties is that information going to? No one knows, cause our media it too lazy to ask:

All of this is quite troubling alongside the tepid coverage of Canada's part (as one of the "five eyes") in US NSA spying. The Globe and Mail is the only outlet to have done any original reporting on this. A couple of weeks ago, they noted that Canadian Law Enforcement has explicit access to call information right down to keystroke logging information from all cell phone companies:

How can you stand up against this onslaught? Write to the editor, call your political representatives, tune in to the details of what is happening, file FOI's to find out what information law enforcement has on you. We are not helpless here!
