Don't leave copyright fix to lobbyists - SFGate:
This week, a broad coalition of organizations, businesses and individuals concerned about digital rights are working together toward one end: to help the public get smart about copyright.
Almost two years ago, Internet users around the world rallied to block the Stop Online Piracy Act, a terrible piece of copyright legislation that would have imposed unacceptable burdens on free speech and basic Internet infrastructure, with little corresponding benefit to creators. We won that battle - but now we need to win the war.
See, the copyright maximalists who want more and more power to police the Internet were a bit stunned by the defeat of their pet legislation. But it seems old habits - such as spending more on lobbyists to protect old business models than on designers and technologists to create new ones - die hard.
