Noam Chomsky: U.S. policy has become "pure savagery"
Chomsky claims that the controversy of Congress about extending
unemployment benefits is evidence that U.S. policy "It has fallen into
madness." These problems are linked to the "neoliberal assault on the world's population."
"The refusal to provide the most basic level of life to people who are
caught in this monstrosity is just pure savagery", Chomsky said in a
interview given to 'The Huffington Post'. "There is no other word to
describe it," said the progressive political thinker.
Chomsky
said that recent economic problems, however, are not isolated phenomena
but rather the product of decades of economic policies implemented by
U.S. elites. Some of the main changes include the signing of the World
Trade Organization , the Free Trade Agreement of North America and the
deregulation of major industries, said the intellectual.
"The
broad and very serious problem of the economy that is staring us in the
face has nothing to do with the bad apples in Congress , "Chomsky said.
"These are deep structural problems have to do, in fact, the neoliberal
assault on the population, not just the U.S. but the world, which has
carried out the last generation. There are areas that have escaped, but
is quite large, "said the activist.
Furthermore, Chomsky told
the newspaper that corporate interests dominate the political agenda of
the Party Democrat and cited the observation of conservative scholar
Norm Ornstein of the Republican Party has "moved out of range" and no
longer works as a serious parliamentary institution.
"Years ago
it was said that the U.S. is the only nation in the party-party
economic two factions: Democrats and Republicans, "Chomsky said. "That
is no longer true. Remains the nation's single-game match-budget, but
now has only one faction. Democratic And no, it is the moderate
Republicans.'s Called New Democrats, who are the dominant force in the
Democratic Party, are more or less what used to be moderate Republicans a
couple of decades ago. And the rest of the Republican Party has drifted
just out of range, "concluded the analyst.
The U.S. Republican
Party blocked an agreement to extend unemployment benefits during
budget negotiations in December. On Tuesday, some Republicans joined
Senate Democrats to advance a bill benefits, but the deal faces an
uphill battle in the House of Representatives, controlled by
Republicans.
