much of what we consider to be the U.S. government and military and
intelligence functions are now in the hands of the private sector,"
explains journalist Glenn Greenwald. "Something like 75 percent of the
$75-billion-a-year NSA budget is actually money that goes directly into
the coffers of private corporations."
"We hear all this stuff
about how everything is so well controlled, there’s transparency,
there’s oversight. None of these mechanisms and controls apply to the
private sector that really is running the vast bulk of the national
security state, which is why Edward Snowden, despite being a private
employee of a private corporation, had access to all these vast NSA
systems.
