Congress Setting Records in Accepting Free Travel from Outside Organizations
This year, Congressional lawmakers accepted $3.7 million worth of free
travel, the highest figure in a decade. Setting this year's record is
Rep. Mike McIntyre (D-N.C.), who received a $49,000 trip to Australia
funded by a defense industry interest group. On the other side of the
aisle, Tea Party Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is currently on a free week
long trip in Estonia. Are there legitimate reasons for accepting these
trips or is it just typical Washington lobbying?
