Hope and despair grips Kurds as Kobanê continues to resist | ROAR Magazine
ROAR is in North Kurdistan on the Turkish-Syrian border to report on the
battle for Kobanê and the Kurdish struggle for democratic autonomy.
This is the first in a series of firsthand reports that will be
published over the coming days: "Before anything else, what has to be
made absolutely clear is that the Kurds are not protesting to demand a
military intervention by Turkey. Instead, the protesters demand an end
to Turkey’s covert support for ISIS and for the border at Kobanê to be
opened in order to let refugees out, and humanitarian aid and weapons
in."
With fighter jets flying
overhead and fierce clashes breaking out between Turkish police and
Kurdish protesters, Joris Leverink reports from Kurdistan.
