Indigenous activist Rosalie Kunoth-Monks awarded NT Australian of the Year - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
Central Australian Indigenous woman Rosalie Kunoth-Monks has been named the Northern Territory Australian of the Year for 2015.
In
her varied career Ms Kunoth-Monks has worked as an actor, a nun, a
political adviser, a shire president, an environmental campaigner, an
interpreter and a political candidate.
She is well known as an outspoken advocate for Indigenous people and for defending her traditional way of life.
She
made headlines earlier this year when she gave an impassioned speech on
ABC TV's Q&A in which she rejected suggestions Indigenous people
were not cooperating with non-Indigenous people to try to improve a
variety of problems.
