Anarchist Lens: The Green Experiment

Anarchist Lens: The Green Experiment

All over Europe there are signs that people are fed-up with politics as
usual. With the victory of Syriza in Greece and the massive increase in
support for the Green Party in the UK there are those who see this as
the antidote to austerity, capitalism and neoliberalism. Yet there are
just as many whose protest vote goes to the right, with massive gains in
support for UKIP in the UK and Front National in France. It is tempting
to put time and energy into promoting progressive political parties,
not only for their policies but also to keep the fascists at bay. But
does this strategy work in the long term? This article looks at the rise
of the Green Party in Germany and their legacy once they gained seats
and power in Parliament, and it's not a pretty picture. Additional
information, relating more specifically to Syriza, can be found here: http://bit.ly/1vpp3iS - private

system... takes in young idealist transformers and spits out older,
corrupt defenders of the status quo"
