Dr. Edward Jessup, a Harvard abnormal psychology professor studying
schizophrenia, develops a theory that other states of consciousness are
as real as our waking states and begins experimenting with sensory
deprivation using a flotation tank. His inquiries into the nature of
consciousness eventually lead him to an isolated tribe in México who use
a powerful psychedelic mushroom in ancient Toltec rituals. He returns
to the U.S. with a tincture that he starts taking before each session in
the flotation tank, but this bold combination soon unleashes a series
of increasingly drastic psychological and physical transformations…
