Ecologist Gladys Del Estal's murder: an award for punishment?

 SPAIN

In 1979 a Civil Guard killed Basque ecologist Gladys Del Estal at an anti-nuclear festival.

Argia magazine has found out that just two months after being condemned
the Spanish Government awarded him a medal. Martínez Salas was awarded
the Civil Guard's White Cross of Merit on February 15th, 1982. His name
was published in the Official Spanish Gazette.

Del Estal has become a symbol for environmentalism, and her death an example of impunity.
