There's no doubt that a Russian backed Iran-N. Iraq(Kurdistan)-Syria pipeline is a threat to the on-going US policy of ensuring that middle eastern oil is only traded in dollars and on their own terms. Saddam and Gaddafi were both taken out by the international petrodollar police because they did not comply (Saddam was hung exactly one year after his fateful decision to trade oil in Euros and Gaddafi wanted Libyan and Nigerian oil to be traded in a pan-African gold-backed currency). The global trade of oil in dollars is the main thing that props up an otherwise bankrupt US economy - other than the war profits which are effectively a transfer of wealth from the taxpayer to Lockheed Martin and the like.
