Crisis in Syria
The conflict in Syria has been even tougher. More than 100,000 people have died since the conflict began in 2011. Two million people have fled to take refuge in neighboring countries and they and nearly seven million people in Syria - nearly a third of the total population of Syria - desperately need food , water and medical care. It is important that this humanitarian response continues to receive funding and that the population has unrestricted access to aid.
But the deaths and suffering of the Syrian people will not stop until the international community to clearly prioritize political and negotiated solution to the conflict.
The recent agreement to eliminate stockpiles of chemical weapons in Syria, sponsored by the U.S. Secretary of State, John Kerry, and the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, has shown that international diplomacy on the crisis in Syria can work .
It is now part of the United Nations General Assembly held in New York when the opportunity to fix a date for the negotiations, allowing at the same table together all parties involved in the conflict and achieve a peaceful resolution suffering the devastation Syria.
From Oxfam are working in Lebanon, Jordan and Syria. O ur goal is to get emergency aid to 650,000 people in Lebanon, Jordan and Syria during the next 12 months. Given the thousands of people fleeing Syria every day, we are expanding our response, but we need more funds to serve more people.
