“From Gazi to Gezi - a stones throw away” is the story of a neighbourhood on the outskirts of the largest city in Europe, İstanbul, and the role of it in the huge anti-government riots that rocked Turkey in 2013. The neighbourhood is called Gazi, which is well known in Turkey because of a notorious state led massacre that resulted with 23 deaths and 400 injuries in the spring of 1995. This dramatic event and it’s memory have politicized the neighbourhoods inhabitants for years to follow. The inhabitants of Gazi have since become constant trouble makers for the state. Gazi is one of the most impoverished parts of the city and it is a hub of minorities, particularly Alevies and Kurds.
