Julian Assange in Conversation | Southbank Centre

Julian Assange in Conversation | Southbank Centre

An evening of conversation with Julian Assange, founder and publisher of WikiLeaks.

With his contributions to the cypherpunk mailing list, practice as an 'ethical hacker' and work as an activist and internet service provider, Julian Assange has long been at the forefront of the Web.

He founded the whistle-blowing media organisation Wikileaks in 2006, to publish and analyse censored or previously unpublished confidential information and images from anonymous sources around the world.

Assange is the author of Cypherpunks: Freedom and the Future of the Internet, co-author of Underground, a history of the international hacker movement, and most recently published When Google Met WikiLeaks – the story of his meeting with the chairman of Google, Eric Schmidt, in 2011.

Assange joins us live from the Ecuadorian embassy in London, where he is currently a political refugee. He was granted diplomatic asylum by the government of Ecuador in 2012.
