Two Dalit Sisters Ordered to be Raped in India

 In May, 23-year-old Meenakshi Kumari, her 15-year-old sister and their
family fled their village in Baghpat district, Uttar Pradesh, fearing
violence after their brother eloped with a married, upper caste woman.
Their house was ransacked.

In July, a khap panchayat– an
unelected all-male village council - ordered that both sisters be raped
& paraded naked as punishment for their brother’s elopement. Meenakshi
filed a Supreme Court petition seeking protection for her family. The
family is also concerned for the safety of the woman who eloped.
Meenakshi’s father has lodged complaints, alleging harassment by the
police & the woman’s family.

Please act now to ensure the
safety of Meenakshi and her family as well as a swift, full and
impartial investigation into the horrific rape order made by the Village
