Maybe they ascertain. The only political option that overlooking the 27-S has ability and willingness to lay the foundations for a global revolution is sounding independence. Neither the federal nor if Puede can offer nothing equivalent.
Political scientist Samuel Huntington, remembers a lot of work on the clash of civilizations, but little book on the waves of democratization that has experienced the world over the last two centuries. Huntington explained that the democratization process is not isolated but in the form of wave processes that occur simultaneously (or not 'many years apart) to countries that have certain characteristics and different for each wave.
For example, the first wave corresponds to the period between 1828 and 1926 in which more and more states were granted the right to vote (at least) more than 50% of male citizens, which significantly increased capacity population to account for the rulers. Second, during the 1943 democratization in 1962, by way of the end of World War II, as the new independence and decolonization of much of Africa and some parts of Asia. Finally, the third wave of democratization was inward on the road to finish much autocratic or dictatorial regimes that had been consolidated during the Cold War (eg Spain).
I explain all this because I feel that if the process of independence of Catalonia (and / or Scotland) goes well, who knows a wave of democratization could start over. But in this case, not aimed at giving the vote to citizens to end processes classical decolonization or cast dictators, but to make a new deepening democratic borders no longer decide because of wars, treaties ancient, medieval marriages or international agreements drawn with square and triangle, but the polls.
That is, if it wins independence in Catalonia, we may have helped decisively to create a model to address the issue of territorial century. Urns and weapons. Urns and closed offices. Polls and summits of the great powers. Urns and court rulings. Polls, polls and polls. It would not be automatic, of course, but the Catalan model would be a benchmark worldwide, particularly for developed countries and more democratic tradition.
This is the true revolution that can give Catalonia. Give the world a model democratic, civic, peaceful and exemplary to build a new state without violence or clashes despite having a state against. Catalan independence, debtor attempts Scottish and Quebec, with the aim of overall impact could become a model and an example for other stateless nations of the world to solve territorial disputes with methods of the century. Catalan revolution goes far beyond changing four articles of a constitution, the Catalan revolution aspires to announce that in this century the power of the vote is more important than the age boundaries.
