The CUP has broken the silence it had held for a week to explain
under what conditions it wants to move forward towards the Catalan
republic. Six elected members including the head of the list, Antonio
Baños, have given the conditions for negotiating with Junts pel Sí in an
event that drew enormous media expectation and with the attendance of
members from Junts pel Sí. They call for disobedience, a breakaway from
the Spanish state and to be able to begin the constituent process.

They talked about measures that make it clear that the process
towards independence is irreversible, constituent and with a clear
vocation for social change. ‘We know that the process is collective and
deep. Junts pel Sí is the only group that can form a government and it
has to form one’, said Josep Manel Busqueta.

Disobedience of the Constitutional Court

Benet Salellas was clear and called for disobedience of the Spanish
Constitutional Court, ‘If this process is to go ahead, there will be a
break and the break must occur before the proclamation of a government
or a president.’ And he added, ‘We do not intend to obey any further
decisions of the Constitutional Court,’ said Salellas. ‘We want the
court to institutionally be declared not competent. We will not
recognise the condition of a court that decides to cancel the protection
of poverty or right to housing. This cries out for a break with this
legality.’

To finish, he insisted that there was no change of opinion on what they
had said after the 27-S, in other words that they refuse to invest Artur
Mas as president. Another thing will be the formulae that they can find
to ensure that this is no impediment for agreement with Junts pel Sí.
