The Mindful Revolution

The Mindful Revolution

What do you think about this? On a practical level, mindfulness is
one of the tools we use to stay engaged with our activism on a
day-to-day basis. Inner strength, peace and compassion gives us the
strength to keep our eyes open to the unjust systems that need to
change. It's the inner fire that keeps us engaged in tangible ways and
keeps us from turning away.

But something that was not mentioned in the video we think really deserves stressing: meditation, inner work, and mindfulness
is not a panacea for an unjust world. Gaining inner peace should not be
used to find peace with the unjust systems that exploit us.

If inner peace work is used to find acceptance with the jobs that
exploit us, or a government that kills in our name, or police who kill
without accountability (or the thousand other things), we know we've
started to go a stray and are misusing these tools for escape like any
other drug which accomplishes the same thing.

Inner peace is a tool to find the strength, love and courage to confront the external things we cannot be at peace with.

Without concrete action that engages with the outside world, inner work
is pacifying. Inner work is only one side of the coin. It has to be
combined with activism to work.

We don't see this point being made often enough. So there it is. Spread the word.
