Catalans to decide on secession
Officially, the regional elections in Catalonia to be like any other choices. But for the government in northeastern Spain is much more at stake. The ballot involves a lot of explosives.
Barcelona -- Die Catalans will also vote on secession of their region of Spain after the performance of their government Artur Mas in the forthcoming regional elections. "We know that these elections differ from other choices from the ground up," Mas said in the early hours of Tuesday. Previously, he had scheduled early elections for the regional parliament in Catalonia for 27 September. "We can ensure that this date enters into our history," stressed the Prime Minister.
His party CDC (Democratic Convergence) had links with the Republicans (ERC) and other separatist organizations concluded an electoral alliance and agreed on a joint list of candidates. If this alliance wins a majority in the election, it will unilaterally declare the independence of the strongest economic region in northeastern Spain within eight months.
