TPP: Secret talks that lead us into the abyss
We do not know if breathing or relieved. The latest round of so-called TPP (Transpacific Partnership Agreement or Trans-Pacific Partnership) in Hawaii seems to have failed. But the fact is we do not know exactly why or how. From various sources we can conclude these elements:
Although approval was announced, still no green light for the TPP, which is a proposed trade agreement which has been negotiated since 2010 by a group of countries located in the basin of the Pacific Ocean: Australia, Brunei, Canada , Chile, United States, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Vietnam and Peru.
Hawaii recently entrapped negotiations in view that some countries seek to protect their industry such as New Zealand, with the dairy industry, which is one of the largest in the world, and there is serious resistance on key issues such as sugar, drugs and cars.
Some issues that have trapped the negotiations have to do with the role of state enterprises and the regulatory mechanisms in the countries, the regulation of intellectual property rights of citizenship, the supply of medicines in public health systems (medicines generic without monopoly price), virtual communication systems and internet freedom, technological innovation and monetary policy, among other points that have not had a satisfactory agreement.
At the meeting in Hawaii, trade ministers of Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, United States and Vietnam announced that, after more than a week of meetings, had Significant progress but not concluded the negotiations of the Trans-Pacific Partnership. >>>http://www.bilaterals.org/?tpp-negociaciones-secretas-que-nos&lang=en
